Structure and Layout

  • Check or edit the reading order by going to Editing > Select > Selection Pane.
  • Verify any used built-in slide layouts have a high enough color contrast.
  • Give each slide a title that describes the content.
  • Add headers and footers to the slide master.
  • Use speaker notes and comments, but do not rely on them for important information.

Transitions and Animations

  • Keep slide slide transitions simple.
  • Keep slide animations simple.
  • Avoid flashing or blinking content.

Images and Objects

  • Add alt text to text boxes, shapes, and other floating objects.
  • Add alt text for linked and embedded files.
  • Add alt text to tables. Note: some screen readers might not be able to read the headings of the table.
  • Avoid using math equations.
  • Group related shapes or images together and add alt text that describes the whole.

  • Use the built-in Review > Check Accessibility checker.
  • Keep in mind that the accessibility checker is not perfect. Use your own judgment to ensure that your document is accessible.
